Notary Public & Notarial Services Attorney
In Thailand, the function of a "Notary Public" is performed by a Notarial Services Attorney. Unlike in some common law jurisdictions where a layperson can be a notary, in Thailand, this role is reserved for licensed lawyers who have passed specific training by the Lawyers Council of Thailand.
Why is this critical? Because documents used internationally—such as a Power of Attorney to sell property in the UK, or an Affidavit for a US Court—must be witnessed by a recognized legal officer. Our attorneys verify the identity of the signer, ensure they understand the document, and attest that the signature is genuine. This prevents fraud and ensures your documents are accepted by foreign authorities.
2. Voluntariness Check: We ensure you are signing of your own free will.
3. Witnessing: You sign the document in front of our attorney.
4. Attestation: We attach our official seal and signature, binding the document with a specialized red ribbon/sticker if required.
Certified Translation & NAATI Services
Translation is not just about swapping words; it's about legal equivalence. A "Certified Translation" means the translation is accurate and complete to the best of the translator's knowledge, signed and stamped on company letterhead.
Embassy Legalization vs. Translator Certified: Many clients are confused by this. A simple "Translator Certified" stamp is often enough for schools or banks. However, for official government use (Visa applications, Citizenship), the translation usually needs Consular Legalization. This means the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) verifies the translator's signature. At NYC, we handle both levels. We also provide NAATI translations for Australia, which is a specific accreditation required by the Australian government.
We translate all major languages including English, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Arabic, using native speakers and legal experts to ensure terminology like "Plaintiff," "Juridical Person," or "Title Deed" is used correctly.
Consular Legalization (MFA) & Police Clearance
The Chain of Authentication: Thailand is not yet fully a member of the Apostille Convention (though in process). Therefore, documents issued in Thailand for use abroad usually go through a 3-step process:
- Step 1: Certified Translation (if the doc is in Thai).
- Step 2: Legalization at the Consular Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Thailand. They verify the signature of the government official or the translator.
- Step 3: Authentication at the Embassy of the destination country in Bangkok.
Police Clearance Certificate (CID): We assist Thai nationals and foreigners who have resided in Thailand to obtain their Criminal Record Check from the Royal Thai Police. This is essential for working abroad, migration, or studying overseas. We handle the fingerprinting appointment, document submission, and collection, saving you multiple trips to the police headquarters.
Visa Services & APEC Card
Navigating Thai Immigration can be daunting. We offer full-service support for:
- Non-Immigrant O (Family/Marriage): For those married to Thai nationals. We help prove the relationship and financial status.
- Non-Immigrant B (Business) & Work Permit: For teachers and corporate employees. We coordinate with the Department of Employment.
- Retirement Visa (Non-O-A / O-X): For seniors over 50. We assist with bank account opening and health insurance requirements.
APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC): For Thai business people, we process the ABTC, allowing visa-free entry to 19 economies including China, Japan, and Australia, plus fast-track immigration lanes.

Recent Success Cases
Case #1: Urgent POA for UK Property Sale
The Panic: A Thai client in Bangkok needed to sell a house in London immediately to catch a market peak, but the UK solicitors required a wet-ink signature witnessed by a Notary.
The Obstacle: The client could not fly to the UK due to work. The UK land registry is extremely strict about witness credentials.
Our Solution: NYC drafted a specific Notarial Certificate referencing the UK Conveyancing requirements. Our Senior Attorney witnessed the signature, attached the copy of the passport, and express shipped it via DHL.
The Happy Outcome: Documents arrived in London in 3 days. The sale closed on time. The client saved £5,000 in travel costs.
Case #2: Adoption Documents for USA
The Panic: An American couple adopting a child in Thailand faced a rejection from USCIS because the translation of the Child's Birth Certificate was deemed "summary" rather than "full translation."
The Obstacle: The original translation missed the "Registrar's Notes" in the margin. The timeline for the visa was expiring.
Our Solution: Our team re-translated the document word-for-word, including all marginalia and stamps. We then expedited the legalization at the Thai MFA within 24 hours.
The Happy Outcome: The US Embassy accepted the new legalised document immediately. The family is now happily living in Texas.
Case #3: Corporate Bid in China
The Panic: A Thai construction firm needed to bid for a project in Shanghai. China requires all corporate docs to be legalized by the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok.
The Obstacle: The Chinese Embassy has very strict queuing and document preparation rules. The client had 50+ pages of company bylaws.
Our Solution: We managed the entire chain: Translation to Mandarin -> MFA Legalization -> Chinese Embassy Authentication. We used our bulk-processing channel.
The Happy Outcome: The dossier was ready 2 days before the bid deadline. The client won the contract worth 50M Baht.
Case #4: Australian Visa (NAATI Requirement)
The Panic: A client applying for an Australian Partner Visa uploaded self-translated chats and ID documents. The case officer requested "NAATI Certified translations" immediately.
The Obstacle: Finding a NAATI translator in Thailand is rare. The client risked visa refusal.
Our Solution: NYC has in-house NAATI certified partners. We translated the relationship history and IDs with the official NAATI stamp and practitioner number.
The Happy Outcome: The additional documents were uploaded and accepted. The visa was granted 3 months later.
Case #5: Retirement Visa Insurance Issue
The Panic: An expat retiree's Non-O-A visa renewal was blocked because his foreign health insurance policy wasn't recognized by Thai Immigration.
The Obstacle: Immigration requires a specific format signed by the Foreign Insurance body or a Thai policy.
Our Solution: We consulted with the client, quickly arranged a compliant Thai Health Insurance policy for Long Stay Visas, and prepared the Foreign Insurance Certificate translation just in case.
The Happy Outcome: The visa was renewed for another year without the client having to leave the country.
