Apostille and legalisation of Thai documents

Which route a Thai document takes depends on the destination country. Hague Convention destinations accept an apostille, a single certificate attached by the competent authority. Non-member destinations still require Ministry of Foreign Affairs legalisation followed by that country's embassy in Bangkok. Both routes start with a properly issued original and an accurate Thai-to-target-language translation.

Our team has spent 15+ years acting as a consultant, not just a document runner: we review source documents, sequence every certification step and follow the file through to the receiving authority.

Services

How the process works

  1. 1. Document review

Send scans first. We confirm whether the copies you hold are acceptable or must be re-issued at source.

  2. 2. Certification mapping

We decide which chain applies: certified translation only, Ministry of Foreign Affairs legalisation, embassy legalisation or apostille.

  3. 3. Translation and preparation

Specialist legal translators keep names, numbers and case references identical to the original.

  4. 4. Filing and follow-up

We submit, track and report progress, and handle clarification requests raised by the authority.

  5. 5. Delivery

You receive a checking file first, then the physical set by courier in Thailand or abroad.

What to watch out for

  • An apostille certifies the signature and seal on the document, not the truth of its contents or the quality of a translation.
  • Photocopies without an issuing authority's certification are rejected at the first stage of either route.
  • Some destinations require the translation to be produced in their own country instead of Thailand — confirm before paying for one here.
  • Where a document must be re-issued at source, that step controls the timeline, not the certification queue.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my destination accepts an apostille?

It depends on whether that country is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention and whether it has objected to Thailand's accession. We confirm the current position for your specific destination before ordering anything.

Does an apostille replace translation?

No. The receiving authority usually still wants a translation, and in many cases the translation is what gets certified and apostilled alongside the original.

Can private documents be apostilled?

Only after a step that makes them officially verifiable, typically notarisation by a Notarial Services Attorney whose signature is on record.

How long does the chain take?

Legalisation itself is usually a matter of days, but obtaining certified originals and translations beforehand often takes longer. We give a case-specific estimate.

Do I need to attend in person?

Not normally. Most steps run on originals plus a power of attorney, and we tell you upfront which stages need your presence.

Can one document be used in several countries?

An apostille is generally accepted by all member states, whereas embassy legalisation is country-specific and must be repeated per destination.

What does the fee cover?

Document review, translation, submission to each certifying body, tracking and delivery, quoted per case before work starts.

Can you guarantee acceptance abroad?

No. We reduce the risk by confirming the receiving authority's written requirement before the chain begins.
