Notarial Services in Thailand — process, documents and sequencing

Thailand has no civil-law notary public. Signature and copy certification is performed by a lawyer registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand as a Notarial Services Attorney. For most overseas filings that certification is only the first link: it is usually followed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs legalisation and, where the destination country is not in the Apostille chain, embassy legalisation. Confirm the receiving authority's exact wording before you order anything.

Our team has spent 15+ years acting as a consultant, not just a document runner: we review source documents, sequence every certification step and follow the file through to the receiving authority.

Services

How the process works

  1. 1. Document review

Send scans first. We confirm whether the copies you hold are acceptable or must be re-issued at source.

  2. 2. Certification mapping

We decide which chain applies: certified translation only, Ministry of Foreign Affairs legalisation, embassy legalisation or apostille.

  3. 3. Translation and preparation

Specialist legal translators keep names, numbers and case references identical to the original.

  4. 4. Filing and follow-up

We submit, track and report progress, and handle clarification requests raised by the authority.

  5. 5. Delivery

You receive a checking file first, then the physical set by courier in Thailand or abroad.

What to watch out for

  • Requirements differ by receiving authority; always confirm the exact wording they ask for before ordering certifications.
  • Many authorities only accept documents issued or certified within the last three to six months.
  • A translation without identifiable translator details is often rejected as an uncertified translation.
  • No provider can guarantee an approval decision — what we control is completeness, consistency and correct sequencing.
  • Certification confirms a signature or a true copy — never the truth of the content itself.
  • Signature certification normally requires the signer to appear in person with an original passport.
  • Corporate documents also need proof of signing authority, such as an affidavit or company registration extract.

Frequently asked questions

Does Thailand have notaries public?

Not in the civil-law sense. Lawyers registered as Notarial Services Attorneys with the Lawyers Council perform the equivalent certifications.

What can be notarised?

Signature certification, true copies, affidavits, powers of attorney, declarations and corporate resolutions are the common categories.

Do I need to attend in person?

For signature certification, yes — the signature must be made in front of the attorney. Copy certification can often be handled from documents alone.

Is notarisation enough for use abroad?

Usually not. Most authorities also require MFA legalisation and, depending on the country, embassy legalisation or an apostille.

Can documents in Thai be notarised for foreign use?

Yes, but a certified translation is normally attached so the receiving authority can read the content.

How long does it take?

The certification itself is quick; the downstream MFA and embassy steps determine the real timeline.

Will you guarantee acceptance?

No provider can. We reduce rejection risk by confirming requirements and sequencing the chain correctly.

Can you handle everything on my behalf?

Yes. Most clients hand us the whole chain — review, translation, notarisation, MFA and embassy filing — and receive the finished set by courier.
