Apostille for Thai documents: what to prepare and the correct legalisation route

Thailand joined the Apostille Convention, so many documents can now be certified for use abroad through an apostille rather than a full embassy chain. The route still depends on the document type and the destination country's own rule. Preparation usually needs an authority-issued original, a certified translation where required, and identification. Expect roughly 3–10 working days end to end.

Approximate total time: approximately 3–10 working days

Documents to prepare

  • Authority-issued original document always required

Photocopies without an official seal are normally not accepted.

  • Passport copy of the document holder always required

Locks the transliteration of the name used on the certificate.

  • Certified translation case by case

Required when the destination does not accept Thai-language documents.

  • Power of attorney case by case

Needed when an agent files on your behalf.

  • Written requirement from the receiving institution always required

Confirms whether an apostille alone is enough or embassy legalisation is still requested.

  • Company documents case by case

For corporate papers, recent registration extracts are usually requested.

Step-by-step process

  1. 1. Confirm the destination's accepted route

Check whether the receiving institution accepts an apostille or still asks for embassy legalisation.

    Duration: about 1 working day

  2. 2. Obtain or refresh the original

Some offices only accept extracts issued within a recent period.

    Duration: about 1–3 working days

  3. 3. Prepare a certified translation if needed

Translate with consistent spelling before certification, not after.

    Duration: about 1–3 working days

  4. 4. File for certification

Submit the set in the order the authority requires and keep the receipt reference.

    Duration: about 2–5 working days

  5. 5. Check the issued certificate

Verify names, dates and document numbers before sending it abroad.

    Duration: about 30 minutes

An adviser, not just a filing agency

Our team has worked on Thai document, translation, legalisation and visa cases for more than 15 years. Before we file anything we review your documents, tell you which route the receiving authority actually accepts, and flag the parts that commonly fail — so you are advised, not just served.

Prefer not to deal with the paperwork? We can run the whole case

  • If you are unsure whether an apostille or an embassy chain applies, we confirm the route in writing before any filing fee is spent.
  • We check the validity window of each original so a set is not rejected for being out of date.
  • Translation, certification and filing are handled as one continuous case, not three separate errands.

Send the details of your case first. We will confirm the exact document list and the realistic timeline before any work starts.

Requirements are based on published rules of the relevant authorities and can change. Always confirm with the receiving party before filing.
